The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat, a picture book my grandmother, Nan Pollard, illustrated in 1968.
My grandma is one of the biggest influences in my life. She illustrated doll books, childrens’ books, and coloring books from the ’50s up through the early ’90s and her house (and my parents’ house) is decorated with her original art. I have a memory of her coming to visit when I was a little kid, and she had to bring some of her work with her to finish for a deadline. It was for a Treasure Trolls coloring book, and I remember watching her draw and wishing I could have a job as cool as hers one day. And now I get to draw monster comics for a living. Thanks, Grandma!
